 This will be the first Christmas without my sweet momma, aka Granny Ruth. She was born on Christmas Day and loved this time of year. She often led Al Anon meetings and sang in the church choir. I feel her presence daily and I know she’s the reason my little GF is in the kitchen baking, (but that will be our little secret).
Today I am reminded of when she broke both her feet. Beyond tragic – after a fall and a short hospital stay she was in rehab. She was there almost 2 months and of course encouraged and praised everyone that was there helping her. After nearly 2 months they told me to come pick her up. I went with a friend and we could hardly make it down the Rehab hall. The place was jammed packed with patients and staff. Some of the staff walked past us crying and I thought what in the world is going on? There was a mob of folks that had gathered in her room to say goodbye complete with balloons and cake and drinks. Now I don’t know about you, but that was not what happened after any time I was getting ready to leave a hospital. But that’s my mom and that’s how deeply she affected others with her encouragement, wit, country sayings and laughter.
I want to wish you and yours the best of today, the holidays and beyond and know deep down that the Goddess energy is watching over you and things can and will improve in your life and as we contribute to others, by so doing Granny Ruth always said, “We will be richly blessed””
And know too that your presence is the present even if you have nothing to give to someone, a smile, opening the door for them and/or a cheerful greeting is better than nothing!
This time of year people catch “the winter blues” pine over years and seasons and loved ones in the past and often mope around for days unaware of what is really going on. In spite of political turmoil, a pandemic and challenges in every direction, do your level best to be fully present and the kind of parent, child, teacher, relative or friend that someone else needs right now. In so doing you prosper yourself. Know that I am here as a guide post for you. And like the hermit in the Tarot deck shining the light to illuminate the path, I am here if you need to schedule time.
